While You Were Sleeping
Saturday, March 10, 2007
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch."

"Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!'
Mark 13:32-37

Jesus is coming back soon. For some reason, he chose us to be living in these exciting last days, he chose us to run anchor in the relay race. The anchor is the one with the most responsibility to bring it home, to make sure we finish well.

Most Christians don’t even think about the return of Christ. This whole chapter in Mark warns us to be awake, to be prepared, and to be ready ourselves for the end of days.
Everyday, there are people we come in contact with who need love, people who need someone to pray with, lost people who need to be saved, sick people who need to be healed. Sadly, many of us are sleeping.

While I sleep at night, there are possums all over our yard, bugs, and nocturnal animals crawling all over the place. People driving past our house, shift workers getting home, newspapers being printed, etc. But I don’t ever notice all this, I’m sleeping. I’m oblivious to this whole other world, while I’m sleeping.

Jesus commands us to watch, to be on our guard, to be alert, not to be deceived. I don’t want to be found sleeping. I want to be found wide awake; doing everything I can for the return of our king. To say I’ve run the race, I’ve finished well.

"Lord, revive me, anoint me to be awake and alert for you. Show me each day, how I can serve you better. Give me the right words to say. Amen."
