Living in The Moment
Wednesday, April 11, 2007
My heart grew hot within me, and as I meditated, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue: Show me Oh Lord my life’s end and the number of my days; Let me know how fleeting is my life.

Psalm 39:3-4

David was a man after God’s own heart. He wasn’t looking for approval or a pat on the back, he wanted to know God’s heart. Like I want to know Li Poh's heart, what she is really thinking about things, David hungered for more than that intimacy with our Lord. He meditated, not just reading the law, and writing clever words. I get caught up in just studying the word and reading, but I need to discipline myself to ask the lord to speak to me and meditate on him. He wanted to dance before the Lord with all his might. He was a man of extremes, of passion. His heart grew hot within him, just like Jeremiah, the word of the lord actually burned within him. He must have been so hungry for the word for it to burn in him so much… Then he spoke. I need the word to burn in me before I speak, I speak too much without that fire. Wesley said “get on fire and people will come and watch you burn.”

In the eternal magnificence of the word, he realized how pathetically short his days are on this earth. Like Nicky Gumbel says in the Alpha course how we can sometimes strive to be a CEO or a Millionaire when it can be out of God’s plan, it’s pathetic! The Lord knows the number of our days. Chris Rice sings “You know the number of my days, so come paint your picture on the canvas in my heart, come write your wisdom in my heart, teach me the power of a moment”. Every moment we spend apart from God is wasted. Everything we do that isn’t through him is labouring in vain. “Only one life will soon be past and only what’s done for Christ will last.” Every moment we have we can Go God’s way or our way, we need to start our days in him and let his Spirit flow through us all day!

I always had this feeling that the Lord would come back before I die, that this generation would see the last greatest move of the Holy Spirit on the earth, then the Lord would return. It could be because I heard Matt Fielder and a few preachers say it, or it could be an inkling from the Lord? Either way there is no time to waste, The Lord knows the number of our days, he has a mission and a calling for each of us, let’s saddle up, let the kingdom of God forcefully advance wherever we go. Let’s make every moment count. Like Russell Crowe said in Gladiator, “What we do today, echoes in the halls of eternity.”

Lord, teach us the power of a moment. May our days count for you, every moment. Help me slow down enough to meditate on you, don’t let me forget to dance for you, let your word burn in me, I am hungry for your word! Give us more souls! Come Lord and lead us to victory, in every moment! Amen!!!
