He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

This verse has become well known recently through "The Micah Challenge." A group of ministries including world vision, tear and uniting care etc have partnered to educate the church on how to respond to the needs of the poor around the world. I Believe God is restoring the importance of this back to his church. Firstly, it says, "He has showed you, O man, what is good." Since Adam and Eve, God has shown us what is good. He has showed us how to live, though leaders and prophets and his Word, we all know of the good that we ought to do, sadly many of us don't do the good, that's the problem of sin, where we are disobedient to his promptings to do good.

Secondly, it says, "And what does the LORD require of you?" This is a question we must ask ourselves all day long. How can I serve you best Lord? Who are you sending me too? What do you want me to do with my finances? How can I best spend the next hour? What can I write for you? What do you require of me? Whatever we do, he wants us, "To act justly" as Proverbs says, "the Lord hates dishonest scales," He cares about our heart most of all. He wants us to live with integrity, to promote justice wherever we can. And then to Love mercy. I heard a guy recently share about an experience where he was taken to hell. He said that there was no mercy there. In his agony and pain, no-one had a moment of mercy or caring about him. Jesus showed mercy to many, he should be our example.

I love the last line on this verse, to walk humbly with your God. Everyday wherever we go, we are walking. Around the house, at the office, at the shops, walking. This is our call above all. To walk humbly with God, listening to his Holy Spirit, not walking proudly, not walking like we are God's superstar, or his top gun, but walking humbly with Him, this will bear much fruit.

Lord, Thank you for setting the example for us. I want to please you above all else. Guide my steps today Lord. Amen.
