A Vow Is A VOW
Thursday, November 1, 2007
![]() Paul amazes me. He was in such opposition to Christians, he used to slaughter them, now he is so passionate about persuading others of the resurrection of Christ. He doesn't do things in half measures. You don't often here much of vows in the contemporary church of today. In scripture I think of Samson and his nazirite vow not to shave his head. John the Baptist did the same. These guys were so full-on for God that they were willing to have there outward appearance change because of a vow they had made. It makes me realise the level of commitment these guys had. They truly were history makers, they rose up among their contemporaries and obey the call of God on their lives. Even though shaving your head or not cutting your hair as a vow to God seems like a minor detail. I don't know many Christians today who would be willing to do it as an act of obedience to God. Many christians today are flat out paying a tithe or an offering, or serving on a team, or are willing to set aside time each week to be a part of a ministry group, or to even fast some food. The key is not to do it for religions sake, but because you are so close to the Lord, you hear his voice and he calls you to do it and you obey. I'm sure Paul took that vow because he wanted to honour a commitment he made to his best friend, Jesus. I know a few single friends who have taken a vow of celibacy for 20 years! Now that is commitment! I know a youth pastor who has shaved his head because God told him too. I know people in ministry who tithe 90% of their earnings to honour a vow. We need to be willing to sacrifice whatever pleases the Lord. Jesus calls us to take up our cross daily. Lord, whatever it takes to honour you Lord. Let me hear your voice. I don't want to be in the crowd of the uncommitted, I want to be among the chorus of the obedient. Amen. Bradah Jit @ 11:17 AM |
