The Death Of Religion
Wednesday, February 6, 2008
![]() At that moment, the Temple curtain was ripped in two, top to bottom. There was an earthquake, and rocks were split in pieces. What's more, tombs were opened up, and many bodies of believers asleep in their graves were raised. (After Jesus' resurrection, they left the tombs, entered the holy city, and appeared to many." Matthew 27:50-53 That one moment split time in half, from BC to AD. From the Old Covenant to the New Covenant. From the Law of Sin and death to the Law of the Spirit of Life. From the need for animal sacrifices to atone for Sin, to the ultimate sacrifice. No more 6 inch thick curtain in the temple between the people and God. We can now come boldly to the Throne of Grace with Direct access through Christ. It wasn't a man ripping the curtain from bottom to top, but God ripping it from top to bottom. I've heard grace described as "God stooping down to us." God stooped down and rent the curtain in two, the final nail in the coffin to religion. The man who spoke vehemently against the Pharisees and the Sadducee s and the religious scholars who could quote the scriptures chapter and verse, but there hearts were far away from God. The man who called the temple courts a den of thieves and made a scene tearing down the tables of the money-changers. Jesus died to break the curse of that shallow religion and usher in a new way of coming to God. Worshiping him in Spirit and truth. Having the Law written on our hearts and not on tablets of stone. And he didn't leave us alone to try in our own strength to work it all out. He gave us his precious Holy Spirit, The Wonderful Counselor, who guides us into all truth. I hope and pray that we don't ever get bound up again by the man made rules of religion. But that we can walk with the Lord, guided by His Holy Spirit in all we do. Thank you Lord for your sacrifice you made. You laid down your life for me, I lay down my life for you Lord. Amen. Bradah Jit @ 9:37 AM |
